HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATOR
This is a non-supervisory position. The Alpha Equipment Operator is accountable for the safety, quality, and efficiency of operating equipment on projects and contributing to the success of the Crew to the success of the Crew. The Alpha Equipment Operator reports directly to the Crew Superintendent/Crew Foreman.

EXPERIENCE
Required: Three (3) years

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES
1. Ability to accept direction and feedback from Crew Superintendent/Crew Foreman and follow through appropriately
2. Ability to operate equipment for dirt crews, paving crews, and utility crews
3. Ability to check fluids, change filters, and hoses on equipment
4. Ability to perform manual labor as needed on the projects
5. Ability to learn to operate various other equipment items as needed
6. Ability to adjust to changes in work tasks or environment
7. Knowledge of process of road and street construction
8. Knowledge of grades
9. Ability to set lasers and get grades
10. Ability to carry out verbal and written instructions and present questions when questions are unclear
11. Expert knowledge of layouts and markings
12. Knowledge of safety standards
13. Ability to read and understand work instructions, plans, drawings, etc.
14. Ability to take direction from Crew Superintendent/Crew Foreman
15. Ability to work extended hours, days, and weekends when necessary
16. Reading, writing and arithmetic skills
PHYSICAL
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by the employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
BODY POSITIONS: Must have the ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time while performing job functions.
BODY MOVEMENTS: The employee must have a full range of body movements including the use of their hands to fingers, handle equipment and tools. The ability to bend the body, crouch, kneel, climb, jump and crawl to reach for objects is required.
BODY SENSES: The employee must have command of the following senses: sight, hearing, and touch. Specific abilities include: vision must be able to discern colors, as well as depth perception.
STRENGTH: The employee must have the ability to lift 50 pounds with regularity.
WORKING CONDITIONS
This position requires the employee to work outdoors in conditions that may range from hot to cold, as well as rainy and windy at times. Travel to the jobsite, and office may be in all types of weather conditions including rain, snow, windy and icy conditions.
AUTHORITY
The Alpha Equipment Operator is authorized to take any reasonable action necessary to carry out the responsibilities assigned approved or delegated by the Crew Superintendent/Crew Foreman. Such authority may include:
Report any abuse of the Company’s policies and procedures to Crew Superintendent/Crew Foreman.
Authority to enforce the Company’s Safety Policies.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The primary functional duties and responsibilities of the Alpha Equipment Operator include but not limited to:
1. Recommend measures to improve efficiency, product quality, and safety
2. Ensure work areas, vehicles, equipment and work sites in a neat and orderly fashion
3. Keep equipment clean and park it at end of shift in a designated area, and in presentable fashion that reflects care and pride in equipment.
4. Check fuel, oil and fluids on vehicles and equipment daily
5. Interpret plans and specifications for assigned projects
6. Notify Crew Superintendent/Crew Foreman of any quality or safety related concerns
7. Keep Crew Superintendent/Crew Foreman informed on all ongoing activities
8. Act in a manner that represents the professional manner reflecting the company’s values and principles
9. Perform duties in an independent manner with little to no supervision
10. Arrive at meetings on time and prepared to participate
11. Maintain a cooperative working relationship with supervisors, and all other employees
12. Perform manual labor tasks when needed as directed by Superintendent.
13. Perform duties in a manner that is compliant with all applicable regulatory bodies; state, local and federal.
14. Perform other duties and tasks as may be assigned by the Crew Superintendent/Crew Foreman.
MEASURES OF PERFORMANCE
The Alpha Equipment Operator shall be deemed to be performing in an acceptable manner when the following have been accomplished:
1. The Crew Superintendent/Crew Foreman is kept informed of daily activity
2. Attendance and participation at Company Meetings
3. Preventative maintenance on equipment is performed daily
4. Work sites are maintained in safe and clean manner
5. No major safety violations
6. Work and quality of work contributes to projects performed on time and under budget without rework
7. Other tasks assigned by the Crew Superintendent/Crew Foreman are performed in an accurate, complete, and timely manner
